Acas has published a Good Practice Guide on Managing Redundancy for Pregnant Employees or those on Maternity Leave.

The guide provides a checklist on how to manage the process fairly, with a comprehensive explanation of what constitutes a genuine redundancy and how to determine  selection criteria.

The Good Practice Guide offers a very informative section on the most common myths relating to women who are pregnant and on maternity (e.g. pregnant women cannot be made redundant, pregnant women on a fixed term contract can be made redundant without having to offer an alternative position) and correctly readdresses those myths.

Acas has also updated its guidance on Handling Redundancy.
